To what extend has the emergence of youtube changed our medium of entertainment?
The emergence of Youtube has largely changed our medium of entertainment from watching shows through television, buying video cds, going to the cinemas for movies and many others to now, going to youtube for shows they might want to watch.
Youtube is a site which provides a place for the users to upload videos. According to the terms and conditions stated by the site to upload videos, certain videos which violate the copyright law or contains mature materials should not be uploaded by users, but users tend to ignore it, or most users do not even read the terms and conditions, thus almost any kind of videos can be found on youtube, and the only way certain adult materials can be prevented from the access of children is through flagging of other users or by removing it by the administrator of the site.
As the videos are provided by the users, it is said to be shared by others, and thus its free of charge, making the site even more popular. The users can access almost any kind of videos which includes dramas, movies, music videos, animes and many others. This makes others medium of entertainment less attractive as they have limitations like requiring money, or for dramas, on youtube we can continue watching the subsequent episodes as long as it is uploaded rather then waiting for the next day on the television or buying the video cds or DVDs.
With more people using youtube, it shows that youtube is over taking the other medium of entertainment and that shows youtube has largely changed our medium of entertainment.
How ethical is youtube in its dealings in the media industry?
Youtube is not ethical in its dealings in the media industry as when faced with law suit, it pushes all faults to users ignoring the responsibility it carries.Youtube is a site which provides a place for the users to upload videos. According to the terms and conditions stated by the site users must follow to upload videos, certain videos which violate the copyright law or contains mature materials should not be uploaded by users, but users tend to ignore it, or most users do not even read the terms and conditions, thus almost any kind of videos can be found on youtube. As a result, many videos which are copyrighted are found on the site and so youtube which is said to be responsible for it was sued by many companies.
But youtube argued that it was the users that ignored the terms and conditions and posted the videos, and that youtube did removed all videos that was found violating the copy right law, thus they hold no responsibility for the videos uploaded and that they should not be sued.
But the fact that youtube has provided this place for users to upload videos, they should take more precautions measures like not allowing videos with certain names in it to be uploaded, to prevent copyrighted videos to be uploaded, that way they could say they did what they could, and even if the companies were to try to check if their videos are on the site, its not an easy thing since the users could not upload the videos using the original name if they insist on uploading the videos.
So the fact that youtube totally deny its responsibility on the videos uploaded onto its site shows its not ethical in its dealings with the media industry.
